On Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10:46 AM, the Pinehurst Police Department received a report of a deceased subject located in Adams bayou. The body was discovered by fishermen. Pinehurst officers, with the assistance of Orange County Emergency Services District 3 responded to Adams bayou, South of the Interstate 10 turnaround. The body of a black male subject was recovered. UPDATE: Wednesday evening they raised all 11 gates to four feet. UPDATE: Wednesday morning all 11 gates were opened to 3 feet with the elevation reaching 173.22. Once again storms in the lakes area have made the Sabine River Authority open all 11 gates to two feet Tuesday afternoon. The Stark Museum of Art is pleased to announce the acquisition of two art quilts that are part of their special exhibition, “Black Pioneers: Legacy in the American West.” The works of art acquired for their permanent collection are “The Game Changer” by Carolyn Crump and “Cathy Williams a.k.a. William Cathay: Female Buffalo Soldier” by Georgia Williams. The Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation purchased the pictorial quilts for the museum. Fall Makes All-State Team
Bridge City pitcher Carson Fall has been named to the 4A Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State softball team. Which is a list of the top 50 players in the state in their respective classification. Fall, who recently graduated with honors from BCHS, will be attending the University of Kentucky on scholarship. She lead the Lady Cardinals to an undefeated district championship and to the third round of the playoffs where they lost 2-0 to State Finalist Liberty. Update On Oil Spill
Orange County Emergency Management Director Joel Ardoin says it was a lightning strike that started a spill of crude oil into Cow Bayou following a storm last week. The storm hit May 29 and a tank owned by the Benchmark Co. is believed to have been struck by lightning. The oil, some 60 barrels, began to release into a containment area that would've held the oil, but the valve on the containment was open, allowing the oil to spill into Cow Bayou.
