Danny Simar, 69, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 9 after a thirty-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born to Wanda and Roy Simar in Orange, Texas, where he spent the majority of his time stirring up “wholesome trouble” with his lifelong friends, Louis Blanda, John Blanda, Jim Edgerton, Gerald Reidmueller, and the late David Green. Entergy Texas storm crews worked overnight to restore power to approximately 141,000 customers after heavy rain and strong winds from Hurricane Beryl caused widespread outages across Southeast Texas. As of 11 a.m., approximately 219,000 customers are without power. Based on initial damage assessments, Entergy expects 50% of customers to be restored by the end of day Wednesday. Because restoration times are based on the severity of damage, it could take up to a week to restore power to customers in the hardest hit areas. TPWD Completes Bass Tracking Study
Biologists from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) have completed an innovative groundbreaking study that tracked the movement and behaviors of largemouth bass at Toledo Bend Reservoir and Lake Fork. The goal of the multi-year initiative, which launched in 2020, was to learn more about fish behavior and help anglers be more effective when they target largemouth bass. Hurricane Beryl came through East Texas early Monday morning as barely a hurricane but it left its mark. Orange County probably got the least of the problems with some trees down and some power outages. Meantime our friends in Jasper and Newton County had to deal with several tornadoes and straight line winds that did damage all the way to the lakes area. Vidor reported around 5 inches of rain today. Orangefield and Bridge City reported 3-3.5 inches of rain. Pinehurst had almost two and Orange and Mauriceville were around three inches for the day.
