Bridge City and Orangefield both came home with second place trophies from their respective brackets Saturday at the PNG Tournament. BC won a tough three set (25-23, 24-26, 15-13) semifinal against LCM to reach the finals where they lost to West Fork in three sets. Accident Stops Westbound Traffic
On August 17th, 2025 at about 10:41am Beaumont Police Officers were dispatched to a major traffic crash in the area of the 1100 block of IH-10 East. Traffic was stopped and backed up into Orange County for more than three hours. The preliminary investigation revealed that a pickup truck was traveling westbound in this area and lost its trailer and a lawn mower. An 18-wheeler traveling behind the pickup, struck the lawn mower and trailer. A second 18-wheeler attempted to avoid collision but struck the first 18-wheeler as well as another pickup truck. The year was 2009 and Bridge City had a group of 12 year olds that were pretty good. In fact one of them, Chase Shugart, is pitching in the big leagues for Pittsburgh. Hijacked Crane Triggers Multiple Crashes on I-10, Suspect in Custody
On August 16, 2025, around 5:30 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to Interstate 10 westbound near Louisiana Highway 108 after receiving multiple reports of vehicles striking a construction crane in a work zone. The investigation led to the arrest of 37-year-old Matthew Vincent of Vinton. Rozina Marie Solomon, age 58, of Orange, TX, fell asleep in death on August 9, 2025. She was born on April 20, 1967, to Rosie Solomon and Bennard Solomon. She was the oldest of two children and shared a special bond with her brother, Herman Solomon. From a young age, she had a love for music and dancing. Local Schools Improve Scores
The Texas Education Agency released the 2025 A-F Accountability Ratings for public school systems and campuses across the state. Orange County schools and Deweyville saw improvements in their scores. 1,208 districts and 9,084 campuses in Texas were rated in 2025. Compared with 2024, 24% of districts and 31% of campuses improved their letter grade. Most campuses maintained their previous rating, and only a small portion—15%—saw a decline. 43% of high-poverty campuses in Texas were rated an A or B, continuing to prove that demographics do not equal destiny. One Dead After Shooting
A man was shot and killed early Saturday morning following a disturbance at the Willowbend Apartments on Sikes Road in Orange. A shooting victim arrived at Golden Triangle Emergency Center with gunshot wounds and later died before he could be transported to a hospital. He's been identified as 29 year old John Scott of Orange. Josh Provost Jr., 29, turned himself in to Orange Police and was charged with murder. 24 Suspects In Ghost Deer Case
Case involves one from Orange and two from Beaumont The Texas Game Warden investigation known as "Ghost Deer" has reached a possible conclusion after two additional suspects turned themselves in on felony charges. This brings the total number of individuals implicated in the case to 24, with approximately 1,400 charges filed across 11 Texas counties. The old rest area on the east bound side of I-10 near Claiborne Park a mile marker 868 is seeing a lot of action lately from bulldozers and other heavy equipment. KOGT spoke with Tanya Avila of TxDOT who said "This site will be an 18-wheeler truck parking lot. Bears, Bobcats Scrimmage Friday
Both coaches walked away satisfied after Friday's scrimmage at Battlin' Bear Stadium between Orangefield and the host Bears. LCM had a 10-7 edge in the controlled scrimmage and a 14-7 score after one quarter of live play. The other story was the absence of Braylon Lewis as LCM QB because of an injury to his hand.
