The WOS Special Teams were SPECIAL Friday night as Trey Baldwin blocks a first quarter punt. Baldwin was rewarded as he was given the ball from the one for the first touchdown of the game and the only score of the half as the Mustangs led LaMarque 7-0 in third round playoff action Friday from Baytown. In the second half WOS made their adjustments and beat the Cougars into submission 34-0, holding their high powered offense to less than 100 yards for the night. OF Basketball Preview
A strong run at the end of last season earned Orangefield a much deserved playoff spot. Bobcat Coach Rea Wrinkle hopes that will carry over into this basketball season. Wrinkle thinks the excitement of making the postseason and a strong playoff game against Cleveland, that went to the regional quarterfinals before losing to West Orange-Stark, has given some experience to the kids coming back which led to a good summer program and hopefully carries over so the Bobcats can make the playoffs again. The Christmas season has arrived and Orange County has a sleigh-full of holiday activities ahead. Music, Santa Claus, lighted trees, music and cookies will abound. Some of the events are free and some have small fees. West Orange tree lighting is Monday at 6 p.m. at Seale-Alford Plaza. Traditional activities include County Judge Carl Thibodeaux reading “The Cajun Night before Christmas.” Mauriceville tree lighting is Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Woodridge Land Co. The polar vortex earlier in the month has turned Orange to orange, red, gold, deep purple and sienna. Trees that do not usually change in this region's subtropical climate are putting on a show. "We're seeing extra color now," said Rick Lewandowski, director of Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center. Areas in the north U.S. known for colorful fall foliage have frequent cold nights and warm days to trigger the changing hues of the trees. Peggy Claybar, of Orange, who works as a nurse at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur, was recently honored with the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The Foundation was formed in November, 1999, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura.
