Minister James Hebert, 65, of Port Arthur, Texas, departed this life on August 9, 2024 at his home. He was a native of Lafayette, Louisiana. Minister Hebert had resided in Port Arthur for 19 years where he worked and ministered in his community. He also served his country in the United States Army. Home going celebration will be on Saturday August 24th at First Christian Church located at 5856 9th avenue in Port Arthur. Service begins at 10:00 am. Visitation is from 9:00 am til service time. With the first day of classes set to begin Thursday, the Lamar University football team took to the field Wednesday evening for a midweek scrimmage. Lamar’s defense took center stage at Provost Umphrey Stadium picking off five passes, recording a sack to go along with several stops at or behind the line of scrimmage. “It’s always good to get turnovers. OC Woman Dies In Plane Crash
A woman from Mauriceville was one of two people that died in a plane crash Tuesday morning in Odessa. The City of Odessa reports the passenger Joleen Caveretta Weatherly, 49, of Orange County, and pilot Joseph Summa, 48, of Bellaire, Texas were pronounced dead at the scene in Ector County. The aircraft, a Cessna 550 Citation II, was flying southbound at a low altitude over Yukon and Alderfer Avenue when it struck a power line in Odesa. The plane crashed into a private alley, striking several homes and sheds.
