It was an emotional afternoon for Dr. Tom Johnson as he came back to Lamar State College Orange one last time for his retirement celebration. The former President retired earlier this year after seven years at the school. His title is now President Emeritus as Dr Wendy Elmore assumes the President's duties. Death Investigation Underway in Vidor
In the early morning hours of Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in the 300 block of Foxglove Drive in Vidor, regarding a deceased individual. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 61-year-old white female deceased. The nature and cause of death remain under investigation, pending the results of an autopsy. Mustangs Get Ready For Newton
The West Orange-Stark Mustangs scrimmaged Lake Charles College Prep on Thursday and were able to get it all in before the rains started. If you're one that counts touchdowns the Mustangs scored twice and LCCP scored once. The Mustangs had a third TD (pass) called back on a inadvertent whistle. Weekly Fishing Report Week of August 20, 2025 Sam RayburnSLOW. Water stained; 87 degrees; 6.84 feet below pool. The water is low with large stumps exposed and fish moving back to deeper water. Conditions are changing quickly with bass moving to points, humps, and offshore structure due to water releases. Caroline rigs and big baits are working for the deep bite. There’s some topwater action in the shallows early in places, but fishing is mainly focused on deep structure. With all the water being released, the bite has been challenging. Vidor Adds Pickleball Courts
Vidor officially held a ribbon cutting Thursday for their two new pickleball courts that were constructed at the Raymond Gould Community Center. County Commissioner Robert Viator took the lead on the project after it was suggested by resident Doug Jones. The money came from park improvement funds and the project was done by a local contractor David Brewer with Rock Builders.
