Florence Winifred Bales Ward, 86, of Orange, Texas, passed away on August 30, 2024, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange. Visitation will begin prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Born in Galveston, Texas, on October 10, 1937, she was the daughter of Wayne F. Bales and Anna Bell (Gidley) Bales. Cards Rally Falls Short

Lamar University fell behind 15-0 in the first quarter and trailed 18-0 at halftime to Texas State but the Cardinals never quit fighting. The Cardinals pulled within four points early in the third and had the ball down seven late but fell to Texas State, 34-27, Saturday night at UFCU Stadium. Tulane To See Improvements

The City of Orange announces construction to improve Tulane Road is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 3rd, with a projected completion date within 30 calendar days of the start date. Rehabilitation work includes stabilizing the base and adding a 1.5” asphalt overlay on the section of Tulane Road from the SRA canal bridge to the City of Orange city limit. Edwina Carol Williams, 80, of Orange passed away Tuesday August 27, 2024. She was born to the late Edwin McCuller and Agnes Manuel McCuller, on June 25, 1944. Edwina grew up in Nederland, moving to Orange in 2018. She was a member of Old Laurel Baptist Church.  She was a loving, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Fish With Human Teeth

Recently a Pacu fish was spotted in Lake Meredith, in Sanford, Texas. The fish has a distinctive feature. It has teeth that look like human teeth. Orange has its own Pacu story. Back in October of 1995 Mark Zerko and his brother were at the pond at Claiborne Park fishing for catfish. He was fishing with chicken liver and his brother had some shiners. His brother decided to leave and left his shiners with Mark. He put one on a hook and hung a fish. A quick glance as he pulled it out of the water, he thought it was a nice crappie.
