The Sophisticats Drill Team from Orangefield High School recently returned from two dance competitions in the Houston area where they were named the top overall dance team at both contests. On Wednesday, March 4, 2015, around 9:20 p.m., an Orange County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was on patrol in the area of FM 1131 and Claire Road when he observed a white Chevy Avalanche commit several traffic violations. The vehicle was stopped by the Deputy near Lake View Cutoff Rd and FM 1131. During the traffic stop, the Deputy searched the vehicle and found a loaded handgun in the driver side door panel, along with methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Bridge City police Wednesday arrested an Evadale man suspected of being "Old Navy robber." The nickname was given because he wore an Old Navy hoodie sweatshirt during the hold-ups. Bridge City police report the hoodie man robbed the Valero station on Texas Avenue on Saturday night. The same robber is also suspected of robbing the Kwick Stop store on Strickland Drive in Pinehurst last Friday morning and Saturday night. Friends Helping Friends, a nonprofit organization that has helped Orange County residents for nearly 30 years, has picked up the administrative reins of Entergy Texas, Inc.’s equally long-running program, The Power to Care. - The Orange City Council will have an extra position up for election on May 9. District 2 Councilmember Tommy Ferguson filed to run for mayor Friday morning. City Secretary Rhonda Haskins said that triggered his resignation from District 2; however he will serve until a successor is chosen. The Orange City Council has scheduled a called meeting at 8 a.m. Wednesday to set the special election for the District 2 seat. Team Extreme from Horizons All-Star competitive cheerleaders has won the NCA All-Star Sr.3 National Championship. The team competed this weekend in Dallas at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in a two day event.
