- The Orange City Council will have an extra position up for election on May 9. District 2 Councilmember Tommy Ferguson filed to run for mayor Friday morning. City Secretary Rhonda Haskins said that triggered his resignation from District 2; however he will serve until a successor is chosen. The Orange City Council has scheduled a called meeting at 8 a.m. Wednesday to set the special election for the District 2 seat. Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School students Spencer Johns and Vincent Hale earned first place in Declamation and Interpretive Reading, respectively, at the school-level finals of the 111th Miriam Lutcher Stark Contest in Reading and Declamation, a scholarship program sponsored by the Nelda C. and H.J. The St. Mary Catholic School Student Council attended the 2015 Texas Association of Student Councils, District 17 Spring Convention at the Beaumont Civic Center. Team Extreme from Horizons All-Star competitive cheerleaders has won the NCA All-Star Sr.3 National Championship. The team competed this weekend in Dallas at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in a two day event.
