The Commissioners Court approved Monday a resolution for the creation of a Veterans Administration inpatient hospital in Orange. The County and the City of Orange have been working with others in the community to make more use of the Baptist Hospital in Orange. Orange City Manager Dr. Sean Oubre told the Court this is the first step and thanked those who have been collaborating on the effort to get a VA inpatient facility in Orange. Commissioners heard from Maintenance Director Kurt Guidry during a workshop Monday that only two items remain to be checked off a final list for the Orange County Expo Center. The list being checked off is not the first to be done, rather the ninth and should be the last. Colin Garrett with G&G Enterprises Construction said he has worked closely with Orange County even past his company’s expired warranty date to help get the Expo Center completed. Teenager injured in FM 1130 rollover
A teenager was injured Sunday morning when the car she was driving went off the roadway and rolled over several times. Orange police report that 17-year-old Jordyn Bailey West of Orange had non-incapacitating injuries. Officer J.E. Roy reported she was not transported by ambulance for medical treatment. He said West was driving a Nissan Altima southbound on FM 1130 near Old Peveto Road. Dirt bikes stolen from Greenway garage A resident in Greenway Park had two dirt bikes worth a total of $3,800 stolen from his garage. The man called police at 11:12 a.m. Sunday after seeing the garage door open on his house in the 1700 block of Robin Street. Burglaries and thefts A guest at the Comfort Inn on Highway 62 South apparently chased away a burglar early Friday morning. Police went to the hotel about noon Friday after damage was discovered to the exterior screen and window. Officer L.L. Claybar reported the guest was awakened between 3:30 and 4 in the morning by scratching and tapping at the window. He went outside and saw a man with a pipe cleaner trying to force open the window. Betty Lou Nezat Fulmer, 85, of Orange, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Holly Hill House Nursing Center in Sulphur, Louisiana. Born on April 27, 1930 in Orange, Texas to her parents, Numa Luke and Alicia Mary Nezat she was a lifelong resident of Orange, she worked as a Telephone Operator for Southwestern Bell and later as a Secretary for the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Orange for 15 years.
