The Pinehurst City Council approved a resolution Tuesday morning supporting the establishment of a Veterans Administration inpatient facility in Orange. The City of Orange and Orange County have sent a request to Washington requesting the Veterans Administration to consider converting the Baptist Hospital in Orange into a VA facility. Dancers Are Dazzling
Four Little Cypress Junior High girls on the Golden Dazzlers drill team were named to the Junior All-American Dance Team and are invited to dance at the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl on January 1, 2016, in Orlando, Florida. They are MaKenzie Holland, Sydney Peet, Shelby Smith and Ashley Umbenhaur. The girls received permission to travel out-of-state and to raise funds for the trip from the LCM CISD Board of Trustees on Monday during the July Board meeting. Harry Lee Meaux, Sr., 77, of Orange passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Harry was born on May 4, 1938 in Hackberry, Louisiana to parents Gladys Mary and Desire Meaux. He had lived 73 years in the Orange area and is a member of the church of Christ. WO Council Meet
The City Council passed a resolution Monday evening accepting a settlement for West Orange in the British Petroleum lawsuit resulting from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. West Orange was awarded $182,180 from British Petroleum in the settlement. Mayor Roy McDonald said there will be attorney fees and other expenses subtracted from it, but McDonald added that the city had just received the settlement information and the city council had not had time to discuss how the money will be used, but it probably will be applied to items in West Orange damaged by the oil spill in 2010. Commissioners meeting July 13, 2015 A reinvestment zone was approved by the Commissioners Court Monday for LaPoint Energy Partners. Economic Development Director Bobby Fillyaw has been working with LaPoint Energy to get them to locate to Orange County. Fillyaw gave the basics of the agreement between Orange County and LaPoint Energy.
