The cities of Bridge City, Orange, Pinehurst and Vidor, along with the Orange County Emergency Services District No. 3 (Little Cypress) have a sales tax rate of 1.5 percent, meaning consumers pay 1.5 cent per $1. Representatives from Bridge City High School attended the Texas Association of Student Councils Summer Workshop held at Texas State University, July 7-11. Leaders from across the state joined together to share ideas, participate in teambuilding exercises, and work on individual leadership skills. County Property Writ
Commissioners Court approved a quit claim and a writ of abandonment for an undeveloped piece of property in Vidor on Monday. The property at 290 Weatherford is owned by the county which wants to sale it according to County Attorney Doug Manning. The county actually quit claimed the property last year, but that was needed by a different title company for a sale that fell through. Local Golfer Wins Again
Jack Burke continues to take care of business on the golf course. The 12 year old LC-M 7th grader recently help lead Team Texas to victory in the 2015 Texas-Mexico Cup. The three day tournament was held in San Antonio at Canyon Springs GC. Jack also won individual honors in the 13-14 age division. Darryl Ray Mott, Sr., 63, of Orange, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015. Born on September 28, 1951 in Houston, Texas, to his parents, Wilford Mott and Virginia Elizabeth (Schmidt) Mott. Darryl worked as a floor installer for over forty years, both in his hometown of Houston and later in Orange, TX, before retiring. He spent his retirement years following his passions by participating in league pool with the team The Mottley Cues and playing guitar with several local bands. Body Found in BC
Monday morning Bridge City Police recovered the body of a man who had been missing since Saturday night. Richard Lee Stone, 52, of Bridge City was reported missing Sunday after he didn't return home Saturday. Officers found his body in the canal that runs along Roundbunch, across from Bridge City Bank.
