Moore Back In Dugout
Former Bridge City and West Orange-Stark Head Baseball Coach Sam Moore is back in the high school dugout as an assistant coach with the BC Cardinals. Moore, who was approved by the school board Monday, left the high school game and went into private business several years ago. "I'm really excited about joining Chad Landry's staff at BC," Moore said. "I appreciate the school district for giving me the opportunity." Jewelry, other items stolen in Historic District burglary
A burglar stole an estimated $27,500 worth of jewelry during a weekend break-in at a house in the Old Orange Historic District. The resident called Orange police about 1:30 p.m. Sunday to the 800 block of Cypress Avenue. The man told Officer D.B. Mulhollan he noticed a chair that was usually against an outside door had been moved. The resident went through the house and noticed a number of items missing. Sales Tax Payments For May
The Texas Comptroller's Office has sent sales tax payments covering the month of May to entities in Orange County. The cities of Bridge City, Orange, Pinehurst and Vidor, along with the Orange County Emergency Services District No. 3 (Little Cypress) have a sales tax rate of 1.5 percent, meaning consumers pay 1.5 cent per $1. The City of West Orange has a rate of 1.25 percent, or 1.24 cent per $1. Orange County collects 0.5 percent, or a half-cent per $1. Representatives from Bridge City High School attended the Texas Association of Student Councils Summer Workshop held at Texas State University, July 7-11. County Property Writ
Commissioners Court approved a quit claim and a writ of abandonment for an undeveloped piece of property in Vidor on Monday. The property at 290 Weatherford is owned by the county which wants to sale it according to County Attorney Doug Manning. The county actually quit claimed the property last year, but that was needed by a different title company for a sale that fell through. Local Golfer Wins Again
Jack Burke continues to take care of business on the golf course. The 12 year old LC-M 7th grader recently help lead Team Texas to victory in the 2015 Texas-Mexico Cup. The three day tournament was held in San Antonio at Canyon Springs GC. Jack also won individual honors in the 13-14 age division. Darryl Ray Mott, Sr., 63, of Orange, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015. Born on September 28, 1951 in Houston, Texas, to his parents, Wilford Mott and Virginia Elizabeth (Schmidt) Mott. Darryl worked as a floor installer for over forty years, both in his hometown of Houston and later in Orange, TX, before retiring. He spent his retirement years following his passions by participating in league pool with the team The Mottley Cues and playing guitar with several local bands.
