Charles Clifton English, 76, of West Orange passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 in Orange. Charles was born on December 7, 1938 in Groves, Texas to parents Hattie Mae (Loftin) and James Clifton English. He had lived in the Orange area since 1961 and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of West Orange. Charles served country in the US Navy during the Cold War. Burglar Caught
On July 27, 2015 at 12:39 A.M., Orange Police Department received a call stating that someone was trying to break into the Quick Stop gas station, located at 3110 16Th St. Officer’s arrived and discovered two black males running from the rear of the building. Officer’s gave chase and one of the suspects was apprehended as he tried to climb a fence. While Investigating the scene officers discovered a hole located in the rear wall of the business. Deweyville Boiled Water Notice
The Indian Lake area in Deweyville is under a boil water notice. The South Newton Water Supply Corporation issued the notice because a leak in a pipe was repaired. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requires the notice until the water is tested for safety. Customers can consume bottled water or boil tap water vigorously for two minutes and then cooled. The area affected is from the intersection of CR 4212 and CR 4213 going south on CR 4213 and all side roads. 1943 Hurricane
In late July 1943, German U-boats were in the Gulf of Mexico. The Allies were starting to make progress in turning back the Axis in Europe, Africa and the Pacific. And a hurricane was heading from off Louisiana toward Galveston. No one on land knew about the hurricane because the government censored warnings because of national security. The storm that landed on July 27, 1943, has become known as "The Surprise Hurricane." It also led to another surprise. DuPont Wants To Invest $50million
DuPont is planning a $50 million investment in the Sabine River Works during the next five years. The company is asking the Orange City Council to endorse the plant becoming an Enterprise Zone to qualify for Texas economic development benefits. The Orange City Council has the proposal on the agenda for its meeting on Tuesday. City Economic Development Director Jay Trahan, in a letter to council members, said the plant has 900 employees and 420 contractor workers.
