Breedlove Field at the Dan R. Hooks Stadium. During a split vote Monday night, the school board decided not to spend $5,500 for the sign. Orange County Pulls Out
The Commissioners Court voted Monday in a split vote not to fund the Orange County Economic Development Corporation next year. The county has been contributing $68,600 annually to the Orange County EDC which was formed more than a decade ago. The Court’s decision comes two weeks after the Orange City Council and the City of Orange Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors voted not to pay the city’s $25,000 annual payment to the Orange County EDC. Entergy drops rate request
West Orange and other local municipalities got some good news Monday concerning a rate increase in utilities. Mayor Roy McDonald shared the good news that he received a certified letter Monday stating that Entergy and its mother company ETI had withdrawn their filing for a rate increase with the Public Utility Commission. McDonald reminded that two weeks ago the West Orange City Council did like several other councils and suspended the rate increase for 90 days, but added that the increase is now null and void they’re not going to have that. Orange police arrested a 26-year-old Indiana man early Monday morning while investigating a burglary in progress at a 16th Street convenience store that was closed for the night. Captain Robert Enmon reported that two men ran away from the store and Officer P.M. McDonald caught one of them as he was climbing a fence. A Taser shock gun was used to subdue the man. The other man drove away in a dark-colored vehicle. Police got a call at 12:39 a.m. about a burglary at the Quick Stop, 3110 North 16th Street. Officers later found a hole in the back of the store.
