Former WOS QB Dillon Sterling-Cole announced his college plans Tuesday by way of ESPN, but the 4-star quarterback has known of his future whereabouts for a few days. Whataburger Raises Money for MDA
Dylan Hall was the guest of honor Wednesday as Whataburger stores in Orange County raised thousands of dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The Texas chain donated 25% of proceeds from sales between 5-8pm to MDA. Hall lives in Bridge City after moving from Dayton. OCC Approves Annexation
The Orange City Council Tuesday unanimously approved the requested annexation of the International Paper containerboard mill. The company asked for the annexation as part of negotiations with the city on a new industrial district contract. City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre said the economic development agreement has the city waiving its 1.5 percent sales tax on items sold by International Paper. That will save the company almost $400,000 a year. It is the same amount of sales tax that the Orange County Emergency Services District No. 3 started charging the plant five years ago. Highway 12 reduced speed
Beginning Monday, August 3, the speed limit on Texas Highway 12 between Mauriceville and Vidor will be reduced from 75 miles per hour to 65 miles per hour. Sarah Dupre with the Texas Department of Transportation says the reduction in speed on Highway 12 is the result of a study that was conducted using a radar gun to monitor the speed used by drivers on the road. Lakeview Flooding
Three weeks ago several Orange County officials with representatives from the Texas Department of Emergency Management inspected the damage from flooding in northwest Orange County. At the time it appeared the damage to the public infrastructure was below the required amount to be eligible for federal relief from FEMA.
