OCARC Fishing Tournament Still Going Strong in 28th Year
For 28 years the OCARC in Orange has been sponsoring a fishing tournament as a fund raiser for its clients. In 1956 a group of parents joined together to form an association to provide an avenue for their children after they completed school. Originally OCARC was located at the Thomen Community Center. Land was donated and buildings were built with private money to relocate OCARC to its present home of 8th Street and Park Avenue. 100 Temp Included Small Storm
Scattered thunderstorms brought a bit of rain and relief to the heat in Orange County Thursday afternoon, but not every neighborhood got rain. The National Weather Service station at the Orange County Airport recorded a temperature of 100 degrees at 2:35 p.m. Thursday. Wednesday's recorded high at the airport was 98. The showers dropped the temperatures down to 84 degrees at the airport, but the heat returned after the rain went by. A wind gust during a thunderstorm was recorded at 28 mph. Retirement Past Due For Will
Thursday was Sue Will's last day of drawing a paycheck for working at the Orange Public Library. After 20 years on the job, she retired. However, she'll be back, she told a group gathered for an afternoon reception. She said she plans to come and volunteer at the library. Will retired to spend more time with her husband, Joe Will, who has Lou Gehrig's disease, or ALS. He also attended the reception in a wheelchair. Orange Issues $4.9 Mill
The City of Orange has issued $4.9 million in certificates of obligation bonds for maintenance on the water and sewer system. Financial advisor Jim Gilley told the City Council this week that the bonds sold Tuesday morning at a 2.95 percent interest rate to Sunco Capital. He said the city has a good AA bond rating and the sale of the bonds drew aggressive bidding. Bond attorney Guy Goodson said the city had paid off the last water and sewer revenue bonds. Clifton J. Stutes, 88, of Orange, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Chaplain Marv Howland. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
