Six Burglaries in Three Days
Six burglaries were reported to Orange police during a three-day period with stolen items including three handguns. Four of the break-ins were on Thursday night. Two were reported Friday morning in the Navy Park neighborhood. A residential burglary in the 200 block of Knox Avenue had a broken back door window and a 42-inch TV was stolen. Also, a car in the 200 block of Schley Avenue had a purse stolen. Friday evening, a vehicle break-in was reported at the apartments on 37th Street with a Walther PK .380 stolen. Restaurant Inspections
Restaurants and food businesses getting health inspections weren't perfect, but not bad. During the last part of July, Orange County Health Inspector James Scales gave 19 scores with only one making a perfect 100. However, 11 of those scored in the 90s and six had scores of 97. Simply Sweet Treats at 2494 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Pinehurst had the perfect score. The lowest score was 80 and went to the LC-M Mart, 8270 North Highway 87 in Little Cypress. OPD Works Weekend Accidents
A 40-year-old pickup truck driver was taken by ambulance to Baptist Hospital Orange emergency room after an SUV hit the driver's side on FM 105 Saturday morning. Orange Police Officer C.J. Foreman reported that 40-year-old Leah Aven Carpenter was traveling westbound in the 7600 block of FM 105 at Beadle Road. A Ford Expedition was traveling behind Carpenter's pickup and tried to pass as the pickup turned left onto Beadle. Three passengers in the pickup truck were not injured. County EDC A week after voting to cut funding to the Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC), County Judge Brint Carlton declared it is not dead. At Commissioners Court Monday Judge Carlton said the county is looking into alternative ways to bring economic development to the county. Carlton stated the county is working to come up with an alternative which includes still using the EDC perhaps in a restructured format since it is funded through the end of the fiscal year until October 1. Tower Grant, Bridge Fee
Radio Tower grant August 3, 2015 Orange County will receive a grant from the Department of Homeland Security to build a radio tower which should help fill a gap in radio coverage for emergency responders. County Judge Brint Carlton gives credit to the county’s new Emergency Management Director Ryan Peabody for the county receiving the grant. The $1.4 million dollar grant will be used to build a 450-foot tower near the Vidor Police Department.
