The City of West Orange proposes keeping the same tax rate as last year after the City Council met Monday evening. Mayor Roy McDonald is pleased with the city’s proposed budget and not raising taxes for West Orange. McDonald indicated that the budget is about the same as last year and will be a tight ship next fiscal year, but includes some capital improvements for new equipment and an across the board 2 percent pay increase for city employees. Grady Louis Johnson passed away at his home in Pinehurst on August 10, 2015. Mr. Johnson was born September 13, 1924, near Center, Texas to Coolie Johnson and Eva Belle Fielder Johnson. On January 11, 1943 he married Peggy Finklea Johnson. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Mr. Johnson loved his involvement in numerous local and regional business and government interests, serving on the Pinehurst City Council and as Mayor of Pinehurst. Longtime Business Man Dies
Grady Johnson, former Mayor of Pinehurst as well as longtime businessman, passed away Monday, August 10 at the age of 90. Johnson owned Johnson's Convenient Mini Storage and before that ran Johnson's Plumbing and Butane, and Johnson's Enterprises. He also owned several strip centers in the Pinehurst area. He did so much in and for the city that KOGT referred to him as the "Governor" of Pinehurst. Originally from Center, Texas, Johnson served in the US Army.
