Elva Joyce “ Memaw” Holcomb, 89, of Orange passed away on Friday, August 7, 2015 at Oakbrook Healthcare Center in Whitehouse, Texas. Joyce was born on November 11, 1925 in Orange, Texas to parents, Virgil P. Walker and Belle (Stanton) Walker. She was member and served her Lord over 75 years at Old First Orange Baptist Church and she had worked as a blue print operator during WWII. Orange Council Talks Budget
The Orange City Council is considering a budget that includes property taxes of 70 cents per $100 valuation and no increase in the water and sewer rates. Employees are set to get a 2.75 percent cost-of-living pay raise. City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre, along with department heads and some department managers, went over the proposed budget Friday morning with the City Council. Oubre suggests using the $375,000 the city is getting from a lawsuit against British Petroleum to buy a new $500,000 pumper for the fire department. Burglaries
Burglars and thieves continue to plague Orange residents, including two in the Ridgemont subdivision. Early Friday morning, a couple living in the 3600 block of Ridgemont Drive returned home to discover computer equipment was missing. The couple called 9-1-1 at 12:37 a.m. after realizing about $2,000 worth of computer items had been stolen. About 6 p.m. Thursday, a resident in the 1300 block of Bay Street in the Ridgemont subdivision reported that a BMX bicycle had been stolen from the garage.
