2015-16 Texas Hunting, Fishing Licenses Go on Sale Saturday Sportsmen gearing up for the upcoming fall hunting seasons are reminded to renew their licenses for 2015-16, available starting Saturday, August 15. The current year Texas hunting and fishing licenses (except year-to-date fishing licenses) will expire Aug. 31. Every year, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department issues about 2.5 million hunting and fishing licenses through the agency’s 28 field offices, more than 50 state parks and at over 1,700 retailers across the state. Swing Bridge Opening Soon
A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Friday morning, August 14, at 8:00 in Bridge City to celebrate the completion of construction on the swing bridge for Texas Highway 87 over Cow Bayou. Sarah Dupre with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) said the reconstruction project of the historical swing bridge began in January of 2014, and had the northbound traffic on Highway 87 transferred to share the adjacent bridge with southbound traffic. Heels steal soles The Horseman Store's 'shoe mobile' is missing soles. Orange Police Officer M.T. Roush reported that 16 pairs of work boots worth $2,145 were stolen sometime between Friday and Saturday. Store personnel called police Tuesday afternoon to report the theft. Officer Roush said the shoe mobile is a box trailer that was modified into a sales office and was parked behind the main store off Interstate 10 East. The trailer had been forced open. RAIN Tuesday Afternoon
A thunderstorm moved through Orange County Tuesday afternoon and brought a relieving drop in the temperature plus bit of rain to parched grass. The National Weather Service station at the Orange County Airport recorded a temperature of 100 degrees at 1:15 p.m. By mid-afternoon it had dropped to 99 and when the storm came it dropped to 79 degrees within a few minutes. The temperature eventually dropped to 73. The airport and the Sabine River Authority gauge on Pier Road each had a little more than half an inch of rain. Kiwanis Donates to Stay and Play
The expansion of a playground designed for special needs students at Little Cypress Intermediate recently got a $600 boost from the Kiwanis Club of Orange, Texas. The Stay and Play Recreational Area, the first fully inclusive playground in the area, is currently a 40x40 foot area for both safety and comfort of special needs students. The expansion will add an additional 16 feet of play area and will allow for a raised grass pad level with a rubberized cushioned surface creating a smooth transition for wheelchairs and walkers. On August 11, 2015 at approximately 1:45pm West Orange Police Lt. John Tarver was at the Walmart located at 3115 Edgar Brown Drive in West Orange. As he was sitting in an unmarked Police Vehicle on the West side of the Walmart close to the Garden center, he observed a white male exit the Garden Center who was carrying a pop up style canopy.
