Alfred John Flies, 92, of Orange, Texas, passed away on August 14, 2015 at his home. Born in 1923 in rural Oklahoma, Alfred was a child during the roaring 20's, only to see the Dust Bowl years and Great Depression of the 1930's as a teenager on an Oklahoma cotton farm. After high school, Alfred enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the USS Yosemite in the Pacific during WWII. After graduating from Oklahoma A&M, Alfred spent a brief time in Dallas before being transferred to a Sears store in Port Arthur, where he worked during the 1950's. Tropical Storm Danny is located in the tropical Atlantic Ocean. It is expected to remain out in the Atlantic for the next 5 days, and could become a hurricane. Longer range models for next week show two scenarios: one scenario curves the system through the Bahamas and move north in the Atlantic Ocean, and the other scenario is it weakening and dissipate as it moves west into the Caribbean. Zach Youngblood, the first scholarship soccer player from Bridge City, will begin play next week as a goal keeper with his new team, the Gorlocks of Webster Univeristy in St. Louis. The Webster University men's soccer team was tied for second in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coaches' preseason poll for 2015.
