A Deweyville man was shot during an argument late Tuesday morning and had to be taken by medical helicopter to a Beaumont hospital. Storm Leaves Mark Tuesday
A thunderstorm moved through the county about 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, bringing lightning and dumping more than an inch of rain. More storms were on the way for the evening. A lightning strike knocked out power to about 400 Entergy customers in the Brownwood and Clairmont areas, plus the north part of Simmons Drive and along Interstate 10. Budget Pay Raise in WO
No citizens commented during the public hearing Monday evening on the West Orange budget for next fiscal year. Councilman Dale Dardeau did comment asking the City Council to change the two percent pay raise for employees to a flat fee pay raise across the board for fulltime employees. Dardeau explained his reason for requesting the change. Dardeau said the employees at the top of the pay scale get more as a result of the percent pay raise and the gap is increased between them and the employees at the bottom, so it’s inequitable. Another robbery early Sunday morning at a motel was foiled by a quick-thinking clerk. Police report that a white man with a kitchen knife went to rob the Executive Inn about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. The motel is on 27th Street off Interstate 10. Officer Isaac Henry said the clerk locked himself in a secondary office which had a back door. He left and knocked on the door of a customer who called police. Sun Loan Robbed Monday
Two men, one carrying a pistol, robbed the Sun Loan Company in the 1100 block of 16th Street about 11 this morning. Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said the two men ran inside, got cash and then ran away. Police believe a third man was standing outside as a look-out.
