Many Show Support For Vincent
What started as a local benefit in Lake Charles for Trooper Steven Vincent, who was shot dead following a traffic stop last week, turned into a huge event Sunday at the LC Civic Center. A Louisiana Jeep Club reportedly started the event and it carried over to car clubs, motorcycles, and more from Louisiana and Texas. A procession that started near Houston reached some four miles long according to authorities by the time it got to Orange, where a large group had assembled at the Orange Boat Ramp and then joined in. Faircloth Wins Elite in Michigan
Todd Faircloth, from Jasper, won the Bassmaster Elite Tournament on St. Clair in Michigan Sunday. He finished with 84-7 pounds to beat second place Brandon Palaniuk who finished with 78-6. Lutcher Stark High School, class of 1950, will celebrate their 65th reunion on Oct. 10, at Robert's Steakhouse in Orange. They will have a room reserved (at no charge - be sure to tell them thank you) for us to visit and eat. Visitation will be from 4:00-5:00. Meals will be ordered from the menu. Back When A couple of days ago on the KOGT radio morning show, we started talking about hamburgers. Lawrence Gant called and said he used to love the ones served at the Bengal Cafe and that set us to thinking about burgers we loved. In these days of chain restaurants, every burger is the same. Individual eateries are the ones with the distinct burgers. The Bengal Cafe owned by the Rhodes family was a downtown fixture for decades. Zachary Jordan Blanchard, a 2011 graduate of Little Cypress-Mauriceville High school, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland this past May and was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant. WOS 26 LCM 13
The West Orange-Stark Mustangs rolled up nearly 400 yards offense, keeping the LCM Bears hands off of the Orange Bowl trophy for another year, in a 26-13 win. The Mustangs evenly distributed the ball with 211 passing (Jack Dallas 18-25-3TD) and 171 on the ground (116 rushing by Melech Edwards). The Bears kept it interesting with two long plays, a 50 yard TD pass from Beau Bickham to Sam King and a 50 yd run by Chris Winters that set up the Bears other score.
