Businessman Henry Seals was among the well-wishers attending a retirement reception Monday for Bonnie Tegge at the West Orange-Cove school district administration building. Resident Complains About Farm Animals
Residents on a Bridge City street are not happy that a new family has moved into their neighborhood and brought a collection of animals with them. Mike McCammond who lives on Gum Drive spoke to the City Council expressing his concerns, and that he wants the animals especially the goats gone from his street. McCammond pointed out that the animals including goats, chickens, and rabbits are housed in the front yard inside an ugly fence. The industrial warehouse at 4011 Tulane Road is expanding. The City of Orange issued a building permit in August for an addition valued at $153,000. The contractor is Mike Barnett Construction. In addition, the city had permits for five new houses worth a total of $556,000. The largest, valued at $245,000 is being built in the 6700 block of Guy Lane by Camellia Homes. Cove Store Robbed at Gunpoint
Orange police are looking for two, possibly three, men involved in the Wednesday night armed robbery of the Stop-N-Drive convenience store in the Cove neighborhood. Officers found a 1997 gray Toyota Camry in a ditch and believe the robbers abandoned their get-away car. The store at 1801 DuPont Drive was robbed by two masked men about 9 p.m. One of the men had a pistol to threaten the clerk. Not even the winds and waves of Hurricane Ike could budge the 1863 cannon from the lawn of the Orange County Courthouse. The cannon is embedded in concrete and has been on the lawn for decades. But it almost disappeared during World War II. One prominent woman wanted to use it for scrap metal to help fight the Axis powers. After all, it was made of brass and weighed 1,200 pounds. Owners Looking For Dog Killer
Hannah and Curt Lucia of Bridge City are like many pet owners who believe their dog is not just a pet, but a part of the family. Monday afternoon, their family member, a lovable Labradoodle named Seamus, was shot and killed. Seamus was found by Hannah near the corner of the couples property on Gilmer which is near the BC City Hall.
