Commissioners Approve Budget
The Commissioners Court approved the budget for next fiscal year during a Special Court Session Wednesday morning. The $46 million budget matches revenues with expenditures for the county according to County Judge Brint Carlton who completed his first budget for the county. Carlton said that he was glad to have the budget complete and it was done with a lot of hard work and compromise by everyone in the county. Wednesday morning police stations around the area held or hosted a prayer event to show support for all men and women in blue. Lyndell Hodgkinson organized the "See You At The Station" event at the Orange County Courthouse. More than one hundred showed up to show their support for local law enforcement and to pray for their safety. Armed Robbery on 16th
On Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at 2041 hrs., Officers with the City of Orange Police Department were dispatched to 3110 16th Street, Qwick Stop # 4, in reference to an Aggravated Robbery. Upon arrival, officers made contact with store employees. The suspect was identified by employees as a black male who entered the business, brandishing a firearm and demanding money. Navy Park Gets Spray Park
The Orange City Council Tuesday morning awarded a contract for the installation of a spray park at Navy Park. Public Works Director Jim Wolf said the city received only one bid for the installation of the equipment that has been previously purchased. The contract is going to L & L Construction of Beaumont for $58,500. A 34-year-old man on a bicycle was beaten and robbed of a pack of Kools cigarettes Monday morning. The man called Orange police about 9 a.m. to come to Sunset Park along 16th Street. The man told Officer M.C. Bernard that he was riding his bike home from work when a man he knew asked for a cigarette. The man asking for the smoke ran up behind the bicyclist and started punching him in the face. The bicyclist fell onto the ground and the assailant reached in his pocket and stole the cigarettes. Redfish Tournament Coming
The Stark Culture Venues will be the major sponsor for the professional redfish tournament to be held in Orange April 7, 8, 9 and 10. A media conference was held earlier Tuesday afternoon at the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce office to announce the Yellowfin Redfish Elite championship. It will be the first major saltwater tournament here. Previously, Orange has had two Bassmaster tournaments, which involve freshwater fishing.
