Bears Miss Opportunities
It was one of those games where the scoreboard doesn't tell the whole story. The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears were defeated by Silsbee to open district play 38-21. But the game was closer than the score indicates. The Bears opened the game with a 12 play 76 yard drive that ended with a 16 yard touchdown pass from Chris Winters to Beau Bickham on a fourth and seven play. ExxonMobil Pipeline Company technicians visited West Orange – Stark High School recently for a “Good Neighbor” grant presentation. ’66 Cards Get Monument
The Bridge City School District unveiled a monument to the state champion 1966 Cardinals football team Friday. The monument was created by former athletic booster club president and school board member Tom Orozco. The idea for the monument was done, Orozco said, as a promise to Steve Worster a star of that Bridge City team. Orozco related how Worster had spoke at a booster club meeting about 12 years ago and asked Orozco if he could help raise funds for a monument to the 1966 state champions. For two quarters last week the West Orange-Stark Mustangs were challenged by a very good Silsbee team, but the Mustangs shored up some defensive holes in the second half and remain undefeated on the season. Coach Cornel Thompson realizes West Orange-Stark has another tough battle this week with the Richmond Foster Falcons. Thompson states the Falcons also run the Spread just like Silsbee and spread the field with some excellent receivers including Evan Fairs and Chandler Speights. LSCO Introduces Maritime Program
Lamar State College-Orange announced Thursday a new program of study on World Maritime Day. LSC-O held a press conference at the Downtown Orange Pavilion to promote the college is developing a maritime program. Lamar State College-Orange was recently awarded state funding for the creation of the maritime studies. Dr. Mike Shahan President of LSC-O says the new area of study is appropriate for the college located across the street from the Sabine River.
