Patrick Henry Belanger, 71, of Bridge City, Texas, and longtime resident of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on October 6, 2015, at the Medical Center of SETX, in Port Arthur. Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on December 20, 1943, he was the son of Minor Belanger and Elizabeth Ann Cillessen. Patrick enjoyed woodworking projects; he was very smart and crafty, and loved children. Patrick was a master electrician, and worked for IBEW for 42 years, he was also in the Army Reserves. The Deweyville Pirates had a bye week to recover from a brutal first half of the football season. At least half a dozen Pirate starters are out or are nursing injuries. Coach Lance Dale says the bye week and this week will be used to get ready for the Newton Eagles on Friday. Hightower Leaving
After nine months as Human Resources Director Minnie Hightower is leaving her position with Orange County. The reasons for her leaving are mixed. Hightower indicated one reason was a negative experience her daughter had at a local business in town. Hightower said the community embracement of her receiving the position of Human Resources Director was not as accepting as she wanted, and her daughter was accosted recently at Walmart by a county employee who used a racial slur. Capital Outlay Approved
The Commissioners Court approved two capital outlay requests Tuesday. County Judge Brint Carlton said the Court budgeted for capital outlay differently during the new fiscal year. Carlton indicated the Court created a capital outlay contingency fund which can be pulled from with the approval of the Commissioners instead of allocating requested funds to each department. The judge stated that there were enough funds budgeted to get both of the requests. West Orange - Stark Middle School students volunteered in the 29th Annual Adopt-a-Beach fall clean-up recently. Members of the WOSMS Student Council and National Jr. Honor Society were some of the 8,000 volunteers state-wide that participated Sat. Sept. 26. The WO-S Middle School students participated in the clean-up at the McFaddin Beach site. A 29-year-old felon with a pistol was arrested Monday night after residents at an apartment complex complained he threatened "to shoot up their houses." Officer Isaac Henry said he went to the apartments at 111 Park Avenue. The people who notified police pointed out the man in a dark pickup truck. As Officer Henry walked up to the truck, it backed out of the parking lot and turned on First Street, then onto Front Avenue.
