Dennis Earl Grimsley, 56, of Starks, Louisiana passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Sulphur. Born on July 23, 1959 in Alexandria, Louisiana, he lived in Starks for a time and had also lived in Deweyville and Beaumont and he worked as a musician. Dennis was of the Baptist faith and he enjoyed fishing, playing music and singing. Orange Police Reports
This hasn't been a good week for workers at the Invista plant on FM 1006. Three people in the plant's parking lot had windows broken in their cars and items stolen sometimes Tuesday night. The break-ins were reported to Orange police at 5 a.m. Wednesday. On Monday, Invista's management announced that at least 75 employees at the plant will be laid off because a unit will be permanently closed. The thief breaking into the vehicles smashed the driver's side windows on three vehicles, which were owned by men who live in Bridge City, Orange and Groves. Local entities with sales taxes are receiving their checks from the Texas Comptroller for collections covering August and the back-to-school sales. Statewide, the comptroller's office collected $616 million, a 4.6 percent increase from the same month last year. The local amounts are: Orange County: $366,236 for the month; $4.3 million for the year. Bridge City: $101,834 for the month; $1.4 million for the year. Keion Hancock is the only player who has seen significant playing time who is out right now for the Mustangs. The final score is not the only factor that determines a win or a loss in football. The Orangefield Bobcats lost a tough one to Houston Worthing on the scoreboard and almost lost a lot more with injuries to 2 key players. Two way starters Matthew Watkins and Cale Puckett were both on the sidelines with injuries as the game ended Friday. Last week the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears mauled the Splendora Wildcats 56-7 for their first win in district. Coach Randy Crouch is very proud of the Bears effort, but now they must get ready for another district opponent. The Cleveland Indians and their quarterback D. D. Jackson occupy the thoughts of Coach Crouch. Jackson is an outstanding quarterback in Crouch’s opinion who is difficult to tackle and carries the football a lot for the Indians.
