Deweyville defeated Kirbyville in Varsity volleyball Friday evening in 3 games (25-13, 25-17, 25-17). Kennidee Willis had 18 kills and 9 digs. Gabby Dupuy had 12 and 5 aces. Shaylin Dupuy tallied 31 assists and 6 digs. Madyson Berry had 3 aces and 6 digs. Brooke Smith added 8 kills and 3 digs. The win moves Deweyville to 29-4 on the season (7-2 in district). After a 7-7 battle at half, the Orangefield Bobcats and Hardin-Jefferson Hawks turned it up in the second half and the Bobcats escaped with a 24-23 win in their district opener. Triston McGee opened the second half with a 76 kickoff return for a score and a 14-7 lead. The Hawks responded to tie it up with 10:11 left in the third. Orange Man Indicted For Drug Trafficking
A 59-year-old Orange man has been indicted on federal drug trafficking charges in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales in a press release after a raid at his home at 1412 Hart Street. Grover Lee Roberts was indicted on Oct. 7, 2015 and charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine. Roberts was arrested in Orange Friday on those charges. According to the indictment, since 2008, Roberts conspired with others to distribute more than 28 grams of crack cocaine from his residence on South Hart Avenue in Orange. St. Mary’s Receives Rosaries
St. Mary Catholic School received 60 homemade rosaries from Mabel Landry who is 90 years old from Jennings, Louisiana. Mrs. Landry received word that St. Mary Catholic School held a children’s rosary which is led by children only every Friday morning before school. This rosary is guided by Dayle Gunn Weatherford. Each student leads a decade of the rosary and the following prayers. Mrs. Landry was honored to hear that the school was teaching the students the process and meaning of saying the rosary and began working hard on making them. Having won their opening game of district two weeks ago the Bridge City Cardinals used last week’s bye to heal from the tough first half of the season. Coach Dwayne DuBois says the Cardinals also used the time to get ready for the Jasper Bulldogs who seemed to have turned their season around with the start of district action.
