Fire Wednesday Morning

A fire broke out in the ceiling of the Dollar Tree store in a Pinehurst shopping center Wednesday morning. It was reported a few minutes after 7 a.m. The Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department kept the fire to the store, though some damage is at the adjacent H&R Block office. Damage hasn't been determined at the adjacent Chinese buffet. J.Scott's Aflorist had smoke inside and firefighters put up a fan to blow out the smoke. Owner Scott Hasty by 8:15 a.m. had not been able to determine damage. Orange Eyeing Improvements

Sunset Park on 16th Street will be getting new playground equipment. Orange City Council Tuesday approved spending $41,000 for the items from PlayPower LT Farmington. Public Works Director Jim Wolf said the playground will be similar to the one by the Shangri La parking lot on Twentieth Street. The council approved several large purchases that were included in the new budget year, which started October 1. Money for the Sunset Park playground is coming from federal Community Development Block Grants because the park is in a low-income area. Bears Being Offensive

Two successive blowout wins has the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears in the midst of playoff talks in District 10-4A. This week the Bears play another team in the hunt for a postseason spot the Bridge City Cardinals. Coach Randy Crouch analyzed the Cardinals. Crouch recognizes that Bridge City is doing a lot of things right and probably should have won their last district game against Jasper which would have had the Cardinals undefeated in district coming into Friday’s game with the Bears. Chad Eugene Shields, 41, lover of life, music and family passed away October 9, 2015 in Orange. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 15, 2015, at Calvary Apostolic Church in Starks, Louisiana. Cremation will follow under the direction Claybar Haven of Rest Crematory. Tuesday Football

The Bridge City Middle School Red teams hosted Little Cypress Tuesday night. The 8th grade Red team won 28-0 pitching their 5th shutout of the year. Jackson Tims opened the scoring with a 60 yard punt return for a touchdown. Andy Lara added two touchdown runs of 5 and 7 yards. Colby Collins had a nice punt return to setup the final touchdown that was punched in by Luis Zuniga. Andy Lara also added four extra point kicks on the night. Shots Fired In Roselawn

Two home invaders who were beating up a man inside his house in Roselawn were scared away when the victim got a gun and fired it into the ceiling. Orange police were called to 314 Bridal Wreath at 12:41 p.m. because of gunshots fired. Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment but was not seriously hurt. The two invaders drove up to the house in a car and went inside.
