The Deweyville Pirates are looking for their first district win of the season. Coach Lance Dale says this week’s opponent the Hemphill Hornets use the Spread Offense. Dale indicates the Hornets like to run zone reads, throw the bubble screen, and will throw the fade route down the field. Coach John Launius’ son Myles is just a sophomore, but is the starting quarterback for Hemphill. TPWD is now conducting a survey to gather angler input regarding lowering the 14 inch slot limit to 12 inches in the Sabine River and surrounding river systems on the Texas Coast. The new rule would not be for just high school or college fishing tournaments participants but for everyone. The president of the board that oversees the volunteer fire department for Mauriceville and McLewis said services in the community have not been affected by recent resignations. Spencer Fuss is the president of the Orange County Emergency Services District No. 4, which oversees fire department. He said the district's two fire stations have volunteers ready if needed. Vidor Boy Killed By Dogs
On Sunday, October 18, 2015, around 7:00 p.m., the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call in reference to a 5 year old male who was severely injured by two dogs at a residence in the 1700 block of Aloha St., in Vidor. Deputies and EMS arrived on scene and began life saving measures on the five year old. The boy was transported to a hospital in Beaumont and was later pronounced deceased after succumbing to his injuries. Auto/Ped Accident Claims Life
At approximately 10:50pm, DPS was notified of a bicycle and automobile crash on Highway 12 near Woodland Drive in Orange County. A bicyclist was legally traveling on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 12 near Woodland Drive. A 1994 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling eastbound on Highway 12. According to witnesses, the Chevrolet passed a vehicle to the right on the shoulder and struck the bicyclist.
