Invista Lays Off Employees
Invista gave notice to 110 employees that they are losing their jobs, according to information KOGT has received. The company announced on October 5 that it would be closing the old adipic acid unit and laying off 75 or more employees. No official announcement has been made about the numbers. The plant's website says it has 600 employees and contract workers. The 110 is 18.3 percent of the workforce, more if contract workers are not included. Pinehurst City Secretary Debbie Cormier was re-appointed to serve another one-year term by the City Council Tuesday evening. Cormier said she is happy serving the citizens of Pinehurst and thrilled to be able to do it for another year. Alderman Dan Mohon believes Pinehurst is blessed to have the services of Cormier. The West Orange-Stark Mustangs know all too well what the community of Alto is going through. Cam’ron Matthews, a junior at Alto High School, died Saturday afternoon after collapsing on the sideline during their Friday night game. During the game he told teammates that he felt dizzy. He later collapsed and was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler where he died. Three people were taken by ambulance to a local hospital early Sunday morning after a pickup truck in a parking lot crashed into a parked car and then drove over a grassy median and a concrete barrier. Orange Police Officer C.J. Foreman said the driver of the pickup truck may have had a medical problem that caused the collisions. The accident was about 1:30 a.m. in a business parking lot off Interstate 10 at Highway 62 South.
