The Newton County Sheriff's Office has identified Thursday's drowning victim as 47-year-old Kevin Mazzagate of Orange. He died in the flooded Sabine River at Indian Lake south of Deweyville. Calls for assistance went out at 3 p.m. Thursday. His body was found about 4:13 p.m. by a crew from the Orange County Emergency Services District No. 3 in Little Cypress. Bears Fall Short
A couple of turnovers and key penalties hindered the LCM Bears efforts to make the playoffs Friday night as the Huffman Falcons outscored LCM 45-35 to make the playoffs for the eighth straight year. LCM's Chris Winters, J'lon Douglas, Sam King and David Webb combined to rush for 345 of the Bears 423 yards. West Orange – Stark Middle School eighth grade students tour Rice University West Orange - Stark Middle School eighth grade students recently toured Rice University. Officer Receives Honor
A new non-profit organization called "Saving A Heroes Place," has recognized Lt. Eric Ellison of the Orange Police Department for his community service back in May when he went above the call of duty to be there for Kazzie Portie, a Little Cypress-Mauriceville senior who was graduating just days after losing both of his parents in an automobile accident. Robert Allen Hamilton was born July 7, 1959 in Orange, Texas to Hallie "Possie" Wukasch Herring and Robert Glenn Hamilton. Both preceded him in death, along with his beloved younger brother, Clay Morgan Hamilton, and cousin, Sterlin Wade Stringer. He is survived by family, Linda Hamilton Sanders of Conroe, Texas and Dr. M. Jason Sanders of Houston, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews in Orange, Texas who Robert always held dear to his heart. Cards Back In Postseason
The chance for a possible district championship was lost last week by the Bridge City Cardinals in a defeat to Silsbee, but fortunately no players were injured in the loss. Coach Dwayne DuBois and the Cardinals are getting ready for the Splendora Wildcats who use a truly multiple offense. DuBois says the Wildcats primarily run the Spread, but they will also drop into the Wildcat and have even gone to the Swinging Gate in the middle of the field.
