The 2015 Special Angels Rodeo, scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, November 14, will be moving to a new site. Due to recent rainfall in the area and with more predicted in the days leading up to the event, the Special Angels Rodeo board has decided to relocate from our home at the Orange County Sheriff’s Posse Arena to the T2 Arena Event Center located at 3810 Old Peveto Road, Orange, Texas 77632. The Board of Directors of the Orange County Economic Development Corporation held a special workshop Friday morning at the Courthouse. Represented at the workshop were the Orange County Commissioners Court, the cities of Orange, Bridge City, West Orange, and Pinehurst. Deweyville's volleyball season came to a close Saturday in the Area round of the playoffs against Central Heights. Deweyville lost by a score of 28-30, 25-20, 25-21, 8-25, 15-17. They conclude the season with a school record 35-5 season. Kennidee Willis paced the Lady Pirates with 36 kills and 24 digs. Brooke Smith added 13 kills for the night. Vigil for Ava and LaMya
More than 300 people attended a candlelight vigil Friday night to pray and pay tribute to 25-year-old Ava Nicole Lewis and her daughter, 6-year-old LaMya Newhouse. They were killed Monday night by a hit-and-run driver on MacArthur Drive. Donations to help the family send the victims to their hometown of Sacramento, California, may be sent to Colonial Funeral Home on 10th street in Orange. OF 14 7 7 7 - 35 HF 7 20 14 7 - 48 Seven proved lucky for the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns Friday night. The Longhorns scored seven straight times they had the ball to earn their seventh win of the season in defeating the Orangefield Bobcats 48-35 at Longhorn Stadium. Man Who Drowned Identified
The Newton County Sheriff's Office has identified Thursday's drowning victim as 47-year-old Kevin Mazzagate of Orange. He died in the flooded Sabine River at Indian Lake south of Deweyville. Calls for assistance went out at 3 p.m. Thursday. His body was found about 4:13 p.m. by a crew from the Orange County Emergency Services District No. 3 in Little Cypress. Fire Chief Mike Manshack said the victim and a woman had gone swimming. The river on Thursday was a foot and a half above flood level. Kevin Mazzagate came from a long-time Orange family. Bears Fall Short
A couple of turnovers and key penalties hindered the LCM Bears efforts to make the playoffs Friday night as the Huffman Falcons outscored LCM 45-35 to make the playoffs for the eighth straight year. LCM's Chris Winters, J'lon Douglas, Sam King and David Webb combined to rush for 345 of the Bears 423 yards. Winters scored three touchdowns, Webb ran for one and QB Beau Bickham threw a nine yard TD pass to Mitchell Lee.
