Orange's new splash pad in Navy Park is now under construction and should be ready for play for next summer. The city received a building permit for the $58,500 splash pad in October. Federal community development block grants designated for low-income neighborhoods are being used to pay for the splash pad. October building permits included three new houses$90,000 being built by James Turner Construction. The houses are part of a federal hurricane recovery program to help low-income homeowners whose houses were destroyed in hurricanes. Local Schools Meet Standards
The Texas Education Agency final accountability ratings show all public school districts and campuses in Orange County met standards for the 2014-15 school year. In addition, the ratings included distinctions for individual campuses. In the Bridge City district, the middle school earned a distinction in math and the high school had distinctions in student progress and closing gaps. Gerald Bruce Dykes, 78, of Deweyville passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Beaumont Nursing and Rehab. Gerald was born on December 7, 1936 in Soso, Mississppi to parents, Lucinda (Turner) and Bruce Dykes. He had lived in the Deweyville area for 30 plus years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Deweyville. He had served his country in the US Air Force and retired as a boilermaker in 1990. Accident Tuesday on 16th
A teenage driver received a ticket Tuesday evening after causing a four-vehicle collision on 16th Street. All the vehicles were damaged but no injuries were reported. The pile-up closed two lanes of traffic and caused cars to back up for more than two blocks. The collision was about 5:20 p.m. in the 3100 block of 16th Street south of Interstate 10.
