Around 8pm Sunday, firefighters from Orange responded to a house fire at 3744 Ridgemont. Authorities said no one was inside of the rented home and weren't sure what started the fire. As Jewish people across Europe were trying to flee their homes to escape the Nazis, the population in Orange was celebrating the election of a Jewish mayor. Abe Sokolski, a local businessman and six-year member of the City Commission, handily won election as mayor in 1940. One citizen wrote a letter to a local paper saying "What is your answer to Hitler? After a tough first half that featured three turnovers, the WOS Mustangs showed their championship form in the second half as they blew away Bellville 42-3 in the 4A D2 State Quarterfinals Friday night at Texan Drive Stadium. The "Chain Gang" defense kept WOS in the game in the first half while the Mustangs offense worked out the kinks, holding Bellville to just 46 yards of offense as the Mustangs lead 8-3.
