West Orange-Stark is in the final four, but a sluggish first half last week almost detoured the Mustangs on their road to the championship. Accident Sends Four To Hospital
Four people were taken to a Beaumont hospital by ambulance Tuesday night after a collision caused a Jeep Wrangler to flip over several times. The crash was about 10 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 87 South and FM 105. The driver of the Jeep was given a ticket for running a red light. Orange Officer L.T. Holland reported the Jeep was traveling in the inside southbound lane. A Chevrolet Silverado pickup was in the left turning lane of the northbound lanes. Orange County Sheriff Keith Merritt and Precinct 4 Constable Weldon Peveto have drawn opponents for the March 1 Republican primary. With less than a week left in filing, no Democratic candidates have filed to run for a county office. Filing ends Monday, Dec. 14. Early Voting is Feb. 16-26. Local militia leader David W. County Security
The Commissioners Court barely had a quorum when it met Tuesday with only three Commissioners present. The meeting was also very brief lasting only 15 minutes. During the portion of the meeting for public comment David Wagstaff spoke to the Court about the need for more security lighting on county roads in rural parts of Orange County. Wagstaff said the darkness on roads like FM 105 near the Orangefield schools and also on FM 1442 makes it hazardous for driving there at night. Council Bans Guns
The Orange City Council Tuesday voted to ban firearms at public meetings. Councilmember Bill Mello was the only one opposed to the prohibition against firearms at meetings. The vote comes in the council's last meeting of the year. On January 1, the new Texas open carry law takes effect. People with concealed handgun licenses will be able to legally carry their pistols openly on a belt or shoulder holster. The law allows city councils to pass resolutions prohibiting guns in specified places. The LCM Lady Bears opened district play with a 54-41 win over West Orange-Stark Tuesday. Four Lady Bears finished in double figures with Grace Chen leading the way with 16 points. Alia Brown added 12 (three 3-pointers in the 2Q) and Sheridan Rogers and Kaitlin McCallon scored 11 a piece. For West Orange-Stark, Eriel Jordan lead all scorers with 24.
