Bass Tournament has 490 Teams
There were 490 teams in the first SETX High School Fishing Tournament held Saturday at Sam Rayburn. Bridge City brough 28 teams and 6 finished in the top 50, lead by Ky Terrell and Riley Pipps (pictured) who finished 12th with a five fish limit of 14.83 lbs. Wedding Dress On Display
Three days before Christmas in 1881, a young bride had help fastening the back of her silk wedding gown covered in elaborate Irish lace. The wedding was held at Holly House, her parents' mansion. The scene is not one from the popular PBS show "Downton Abbey" about the lords and ladies of England. The young bride was Miriam Melissa Lutcher, who may be considered one of the leading ladies in Orange's history. The wedding gown is now part of a new exhibit at the W.H. Fourteen Little Cypress Junior High band students earned chairs in the Texas Music Educators All-Region Band on Saturday, December 5. Four of those students, Avery Holland, Shaleigh Hebert, Robert Simpson, and Spencer Layman, placed high enough to also earn positions in the All-Region Orchestra. Dead Man Identified
The man who died early Saturday morning on Interstate 10 has been identified as 52-year-old Pierre Moise Patin of Lake Charles. Moise died after falling about 50 feet from the Neches River Bridge while trying to get out of traffic after a crash on the interstate about 5:20 a.m. Saturday. The Texas Department of Public Safety said a passenger vehicle was stalled in the outside westbound lane of the bridge. A TxDOT work van was traveling in the same lane and slowed down to avoid colliding with the disabled vehicle. When the van slowed, a Chevrolet pickup truck hit it from behind. Orange Police Weekend Briefs
A woman returning to her parked car on 16th Street Friday night after the Christmas parade discovered a man sitting inside the car. Two Orange police detectives soon arrested the man. Patrol Officer M.T. Roush reported the woman had left her car parked at the Family Eye Clinic lot in the 2400 block of 16th Street while she went with family to the parade in downtown Orange. When she returned to the car about 8 p.m., she noticed the brake lights on and a man sitting in the driver’s seat. Detective Sergeants Jason Laughlin and J.C. Orangefield Lady Bobcat Basketball Preview The Orangefield Lady Bobcats have a new coach with a familiar face. Jennifer Willis who is a graduate of Orangefield High School and served as the Bridge City Lady Cardinals’ coach now takes over the Lady Bobcats. Willis actually taught many of her current players when they were in physical education as youngsters. Willis reminisces that her freshmen were in kindergarten and the seniors were in third grade when she had them in elementary school so getting to coach them again has been pretty neat.
