The Commissioners Court barely had a quorum when it met Tuesday with only three Commissioners present. The meeting was also very brief lasting only 15 minutes. During the portion of the meeting for public comment David Wagstaff spoke to the Court about the need for more security lighting on county roads in rural parts of Orange County. Council Bans Guns
The Orange City Council Tuesday voted to ban firearms at public meetings. Councilmember Bill Mello was the only one opposed to the prohibition against firearms at meetings. The vote comes in the council's last meeting of the year. On January 1, the new Texas open carry law takes effect. People with concealed handgun licenses will be able to legally carry their pistols openly on a belt or shoulder holster. The law allows city councils to pass resolutions prohibiting guns in specified places. LCM Opens District With Win
The LCM Lady Bears opened district play with a 54-41 win over West Orange-Stark Tuesday. Four Lady Bears finished in double figures with Grace Chen leading the way with 16 points. Alia Brown added 12 (three 3-pointers in the 2Q) and Sheridan Rogers and Kaitlin McCallon scored 11 a piece. For West Orange-Stark, Eriel Jordan lead all scorers with 24. Tuesday all three OF Lady Bobcat basketball teams opened district with a win over BC. Freshman won 49-15; JV 29-19. The Varsity won 37-25. For OF: Emmi Lummus 4 steals, 3 assist, 6 rebounds; Hanna Lowe 12 points; Paris Fregia 3 points and 2 steals; Sabryn Crain 3 points, 10 rebounds 2 steals; Bethany Green 15 points 7 rebounds; Kaylyn Nelson 7 rebounds 2 points.
