Monday is the last day to file for running in the party primaries on March 1. Five Republicans have filed to run for the Precinct 1 county commissioner seat being vacated by David Dubose. In Orange County, no Democrats filed for local elections. The county has six contested races in the Republican Primary. Two of the contested spots are county-wide offices. Two Girls Found Safe
Two sisters ages 5 and 7 were found safe in Orange Sunday after a car-jacker in Louisiana stole the truck they were riding in. Orange Police Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said Louisiana law enforcement tracked the truck with a cell phone that had been left inside. Patrol Captain Keith Longlois found the girls inside the truck parked in the 300 block of North Street off Simmons Drive. The girls told police they heard the car-jacker talking on the phone with other people. When he parked the truck on North Street, another pickup truck drove up. A man living at the Linkwood Apartments was assaulted Saturday night by a man he suspected of being a car burglar. The burglar got away after purposely ripping his shirt. However, the burglar left behind a cell phone. Orange Officer Brian Latiolais reported he went to the apartments at 1500 W. Link Avenue at 8:11 p.m. The resident told police he watched the man try car doors to see if they were open. When a door opened, the resident went up to the man and asked what he was doing. The photo you see was a familiar sight Saturday afternoon on a wet and windy Tully Stadium field as the West Orange-Stark Mustangs defeated Cuero 41-28 to advance to the 4A D2 State Championship for the second straight year. Receiver Thomas Wallace caught four touchdown passes, three from quarterback Jack Dallas and one from Keion Hancock on a fourth and one call from the 37. DuPont, Dow Merge
DuPont and Dow announced this morning a merger of the two companies to become DowDuPont. The deal will need regulatory approval and is expected to become final in the second half of 2016, according to a DuPont media release. Within 18 to 24 months, the combined corporation will separate into three publicly-traded companies--Agriculture, Material Science and Specialty Products. The DuPont Sabine River Works, which has been in Orange for 70 years, makes plastic products. Last year, the plant announced a $100 million improvement for ethylene copolymers.
