The photo you see was a familiar sight Saturday afternoon on a wet and windy Tully Stadium field as the West Orange-Stark Mustangs defeated Cuero 41-28 to advance to the 4A D2 State Championship for the second straight year. Receiver Thomas Wallace caught four touchdown passes, three from quarterback Jack Dallas and one from Keion Hancock on a fourth and one call from the 37. The first touchdown was on the first play from scrimmage for WOS when Dallas hit Wallace in front of the Cuero bench for a 58 yard score. DuPont, Dow Merge
DuPont and Dow announced this morning a merger of the two companies to become DowDuPont. The deal will need regulatory approval and is expected to become final in the second half of 2016, according to a DuPont media release. Within 18 to 24 months, the combined corporation will separate into three publicly-traded companies--Agriculture, Material Science and Specialty Products. The DuPont Sabine River Works, which has been in Orange for 70 years, makes plastic products. Last year, the plant announced a $100 million improvement for ethylene copolymers. Two Accidents In Fog
Orange police investigated two accidents Thursday morning when thick fog blanketed the area. Another collision happened in the evening during busy 16th Street traffic. No serious injuries were reported in any of the crashes. About 7 a.m., police went to the 8000 block of Highway 62 at Blacksher Crossing after a Lexus ran off the road, across and ditch and ended in a heavy brush line. Officer M.T. Roush reported that the driver, 59-year-old Terry Sonnier of Orange, was traveling northwest. Santa Claus is making a lot of friends these days on MacArthur Drive next to a trailer loaded with fresh sweet potatoes. He smiles and waves at cars that pass by. People wave back and some stop to drop off new toys or drop some bills in Santa’s Salvation Army red kettle. Tarver Returns To SO
Orange County Sheriff Keith Merritt plans to make some personnel changes within his department in January. Merritt said he has asked John Tarver a former chief deputy under two previous sheriffs to return to the Sheriff’s Office in that capacity. Merritt indicated he had wanted Tarver on the Sheriff’s Office staff for quite a while, but circumstances had never worked out. Beginning in the New Year the sheriff will move a couple of people around to make the position of chief deputy available for Tarver.
