Clifton James Colbert, 73 of Houston (formerly of Orange) passed away on December 14th in Houston. Born in Franklin, LA on March 1, 1942 to Wallace and Clara Colbert. He graduated from Emma H. Wallace High School in 1960. Upon his graduation, he served in the military. He was later employed by Southern Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad, retiring after 31 years. Clifton loved people, he always had stories to tell. He loved music, and was proud of his record collection. Restaurant Burglarized
Burglars broke into the Two Amigos Restaurant, 3130 16th Street, Wednesday night. Orange police were called at 10 a.m. Thursday when employees discovered the missing items and damage to the kitchen ceiling. Officer J.L. Goins said a monkey wrench and a socket wrench left behind were apparently used in the break-in. EDC Board Meets
The Board of Directors for the Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) met for a combined five hours or more Wednesday and Thursday in an effort to work out how to proceed into the New Year. County Judge Brint Carlton provided the results agreed to by the board. Carlton said the directors decided to go with a contract service the Regional Economic Development Initiative which the EDC is already a member, but will expand its partnership with at an additional $1,000 a month for an interim period. Christmas Break For Schools
Thursday was the last day of classes for the West Orange-Cove school district before the Christmas break. The other public schools in the county will have classes Friday before taking vacation. West Orange-Cove canceled the half day scheduled on Friday because of the high school playing in the state championship football game Friday afternoon in Houston. Purple Santa in Mauriceville
The Mauriceville Elementary staff and student council, along with some help from the St. Maurice Catholic Church of Mauriceville, First Baptist Church of Mauriceville, Sabine River Ford, and ITW Mueller, were able to provide Christmas assistance through their Purple Santa program to 57 MVE children this Christmas. Breaking Ground Downtown
A new multi-million dollar addition to the Stark Museum of Art will provide studio space for art activities and a library archives for historical documents relating to the Lutcher and Stark families. The Stark Foundation Thursday morning broke ground for the addition, which is being built by SpawGlass. Walter Riedel, president and CEO of the foundation, said the addition "ensures the legacy of our founders (Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark) in art and education." BCISD Supt. Search
The Bridge City ISD school board is having a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17 to screen applicants for superintendent. The board’s timeline for the search includes naming a finalist on January 13 or later. In October, Superintendent Mike King announced he would leave the job at the end of January to work in the private sector. The board has hired Arrow Education Services to assist in the search.
