Small Fire at WOSHS
A hot plate in a science class at West Orange-Stark High School triggered an evacuation of students and staff at the school about 11:30 Thursday morning. Lorraine Shannon, spokeswoman for the West Orange-Cove school district, said the school followed the fire drill measures and called fire departments. Firefighters thoroughly inspected the building before allowing people back inside to resume the regular schedule. Crane Killer Caught
An 18-year-old Beaumont man was arrested Thursday by federal authorities on a charge connected to the shooting deaths of two endangered whooping cranes in Jefferson County. U.S. Attorney John M. Bales of the Eastern District of Texas said Trey Joseph Frederick has been charged with violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. He appeared in federal court in Beaumont Thursday afternoon. He faces up to six months in federal prison and a fine of up to $15,000. Orange Man Dies In Accident
An Orange man died Wednesday morning when his truck flipped on I-10 in Westlake, Louisiana. KPLC reports Westlake Chief of Police Chris Wilrye said Marvin Stefko, 37, of Orange, died in the one-vehicle accident. The accident happened just after 8 a.m. on I-10 eastbound near the Westlake exit. When officers arrived, they saw a lumber company truck flipped over and Stefko, the driver, was pinned inside.
