Jadyn Stack is an eighth grader at Little Cypress Junior High and one of the Argos starring in the JASON Alliance of Southeast Texas (JASET) environmental science video “Wonderful Wetlands.” An Argo is the one student from each participating district who appears in the filming of the JASON project. Filter Equipment Contract in BC
The City Council awarded a contract for water filter equipment to be installed in three Bridge City water wells Tuesday evening. Simco Enterprises will handle the installation of water filtration equipment in the water wells at a cost of just under half a million dollars. City Manager Jerry Jones said this is another step Bridge City is taking to resolve the brown water problem in the city. Jones indicated the project started last summer with the installation of the actual filters which is almost completed. If a man and woman had been able to keep their sewage to themselves, they may have kept out of jail. Instead, they were arrested Saturday night for possession of a stolen recreational vehicle. The RV was reported stolen by U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Services out of Florida. Orange Patrol Officer Byrun Perry said police were called to the Pilot Travel Center at 11:15 p.m. Saturday because people reported seeing sewage being illegally dumped from an RV. LCM Cheerleaders Place Third
On Thursday, January 14, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Varsity Cheerleaders participated in the first ever UIL State Spirit Competition. The girls placed Third overall in the 4A division out of 56 teams from across the State and received bronze medals for their performance. The squad competed in three preliminary rounds of band dance, fight song and crowd leading. After preliminaries, the top 20 finalists were named and competed that evening in finals. Mike Gentry, 69, of Vidor died Sunday, January 17th, 2016 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. A native of Beaumont, he was a longtime resident of Vidor. Mike was involved with Orangefield ISD for more than 30 years and retired as the Superintendent. He received his bachelors and masters degree at Lamar University in Beaumont. He was the UIL executive director for two school districts in the area. Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. Elizabeth Carnelly, 94, of Orange, passed away on January 16, 2016, in Pearland, Texas. Born in Parkersberg, West Virginia, on July 5, 1921, she was the daughter of William H. Heermans and Nell Wells Heermans. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from the University of West Virginia in 1943. Elizabeth moved to Orange in 1946 where she lived and raised her family until she moved to Collier Park Assisted Living in Beaumont and she later moved to Pearland, Texas.
