Restoration Begins In Early Spring

DEPOT PROJECT TO BEGIN IN EARLY SPRING Excitement filled the room as the announcement was made at the board meeting of the Friends of the Orange Depot last Thursday that enough funds had been raised to allow the restoration construction to begin in early spring of this year. In attendance was project architect Rob Clark, who showed the group the construction documents that are nearly complete. AARP Tax Assistance

  2015 INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE The AARP Free Tax Filing Assistance Program will be offered starting 12:15 PM, Wednesday, February 3rd,  at the Orange Public Library. Trained volunteers will be available from 12:15 to 4:00 PM every Wednesday and Friday through April 18th. Anyone seeking assistance should bring the following All W-2 and 1099 Forms including Social Security Benefits statements and Social Security cards for dependents. Hamfest Feb. 27

The Orange Amateur Radio Club and the Jefferson Radio Club will be hosting their annual 2016 Hamfest Saturday, February 27th, 2016.  It will be held at the Orange County Convention Expo Center located at 11475 FM 1442 in Orange , Texas. Doors opens at 6:30 am until 2:00 pm. Lots of door prizes will be given away all day. Entry fee is 8 dollars. Tickets are 1.00 each or 6 for $5.00, 12 for $10.00, etc. Grand Prize will be drawn at 1:30 pm. You need not to be present to win. LCJH Varsity Choir

On Saturday, January 23, 19 Little Cypress Junior High varsity choir students attended the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) annual Solo and Ensemble Contest.  Each student learned a solo which was then performed for a judge who gave each student written comments and a score.  First Division Superior ratings were earned by 18 students and one Second Division Excellent rating was awarded to the LCJH Cub Choir members. Tax Abatement for Vidor

  The City of Vidor wants to attract new citizens to move there.  The City Council in Vidor will consider approving an ordinance Thursday that will offer tax abatements for new residential construction in the city. Diabetes Class

It’s Time to Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes!   Fallon Foster, County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences will be offering free diabetes educational classes for adults. Orange Council Meets Tuesday

The Orange City Council on Tuesday will vote on awarding a $2.81 million contract for the sewage treatment improvements and on creating a social media coordinator’s position to work under Economic Development Director Jay Trahan. The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers next to the Orange Public Library. Public Works Director Jim Wolf in a letter to the council said the city's engineering consultant Schaumburg and Polk recommends the bid of Allco of Beaumont for the sewage treatment system project. Gwendolyn “Gwen” Ramsey Adams passed quietly on January 23, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. Born February 21, 1935, to Morris Desmond Ramsey and Gussie Lee Hammett Ramsey in Bossier City, LA, Gwen and her family relocated to Orange shortly thereafter, where she remained a lifelong resident.    A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the funeral home from 6 to 8:00 p.m.   The funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
