Sophomore La'Shya Cole has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for Jan. 18-24, the conference announced on Tuesday. Cole, a graduate of West Orange-Stark, swept both events she competed in. She led the team of Aggies that took the top three spots in the Triple Jump with a mark of 11.75m (38 ft. 7in.). In the Long Jump, she won with a mark of 5.61m (18 ft. 5 in.). Her marks in both events were a college best for Cole. She currently is second in the WAC in both events. County Needs Improvements
The representatives of Way Service gave a report Tuesday to the Commissioners Court on their energy efficiency study of the county’s buildings. County Judge Brint Carlton summarized the report saying the county will need to make improvements to the electrical, air conditioning, and mechanical equipment in most of the county’s buildings especially the jail. Way also looked at the options to repairing the marble façade on the front of the courthouse. OHS All-Region Band
Five students from Orangefield High School were selected for the Region 10 ATSSB All-Region Band. They are Alexis Weimann on bass clarinet, Justin Dupuis on trumpet, Katy Swiere on flute, Kayla Boyett on clarinet, and Cameron Hutchison (not pictured) on tuba. Monday, February 1, is the last day to register to vote in the March 1 Republican and Democratic primary races. The Orange County Elections Administration Office said a registration form can be printed off the office's website. The completed forms may be mailed to the office, but people should not wait until the last minute. The current voter registration cards are blue and white and were mailed the first week of December to people who are already registered. An estimated $14,000 or more in firearms, jewelry, tools and other items were reported stolen during a daytime burglary in Roselawn Friday. Orange Patrol Officer Troy Tyson said the break-in was reported in the 200 block of Camellia at 12:19 p.m. Friday. The resident had left the house locked at 9 a.m. The items reported stolen included two double-barrel Remington shotguns, a Remington .22 caliber lever-action rifle, and a Taurus .9 mm semi-automatic pistol with two magazines.
