Council Proactive With Hot Tax
Last week the Orange City Council held a meeting and one of the agenda items was to consider a motion authorizing hotel/motel occupancy tax (HOT) funding for Fiscal Year 2025. This is also known as "Christmas in September" for some of our non-profit organizations. The purpose of the local hotel occupancy tax is to promote tourism and the convention and hotel industry. Man Hides From Authorities
Around 4:30pm on Monday the Orange County Sheriff's Department responded to a disturbance call between a male and female at a trailer park off Hwy. 12 in Vidor. A third person attempted to intervene when the officer arrived by parking a dump truck on the drive and blocking people from leaving. The Officer believed third person, wearing green shorts and no shirt, displayed a gun so he called for backup. The man ran into the woods but wasn’t found before dark. Blackmon Found Guilty
A jury has found Arthur Blackmon, Jr., 57, of Orange, guilty of shooting and killing 42 year old Richard James Williams. He was sentenced to 42 years in prison. On the night of November 11, 2022, Orange Police were called to the Cove Terrace Apartments on Cove Drive to a call of shots fired. They found Williams dead at the scene.
