Energy Program Approved by CC
The Commissioners Court approved Tuesday a 6.4 million dollar energy efficiency program for the county that will be paid for by the approximately 7.1 million dollars it will save the county. Way Service of Vidor will perform the improvements. Ken Morris with Way said much of the savings will be in utilities to help pay for the program. Morris added that Way will use 95 percent of the savings to pay for the improvement projects while the county will be keeping five percent of the savings. Planning & Zoning Meeting
The Orange Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday agreed to make 1,160 acres of the newly annexed International Paper plant as industrial. Planning Director Kelvin Knauf told the commission new additions to the city automatically are made low-density residential and then changed. He said all the land is used as industrial. North Alabama’s softball team came away with two more wins Sunday at the GSC/PBC Southern Softball Showdown to finish the season-opening event with a 4-0 record. The Lions knocked off Armstrong State 2-1 and then beat host Columbus State 6-1 at the South Commons Softball Complex. Raven Cole picked up two wins while the Lions added another five extra-base hits. In the opener, the Lions loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh before Carmen Whitfield’s one-out ground ball scored Danielle Cruickshank from third for the game-winning run.
