Fire in West Orange
Firefighters from West Orange were called to 2800 Admiral Street Tuesday evening for a home on fire. By the time they arrived the two women had the fire out. No injuries were reported. During their investigation, firefighters were puzzled that they couldn't find a source of the fire. This week the Sugie Lane Foundation unveiled their display at the Orange County Courthouse as October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Emily Ross, the founder of SLF, thanked the Orange County Commissioners, the District Attorney's office and the Sheriff's Department for allowing them to display on the courthouse lawn, and draw awareness to domestic violence. The display shows purple pinwheels for the number of domestic violence calls (209), 110 accepted domestic violence cases, 64 misdemeanor charges filed, and 56 felony charges filed. T.J. “Jack” Askew, 92, of Orange, Texas, passed away on September 30, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in Orange. Born in Cooper, Texas, on February 22, 1932, he was the son of Delbert H. Askew and Magalee (Garmon) Askew. Jack moved to Orange in the 40’s. He graduated from Lutcherstark in 1950, where he met the love of his life, Bobbye Godeaux. OHS Sends Comeback Cooler
Mrs. Feidler's Orangefield High School art classes made a comeback cooler to send to an area affected by Hurricane Helene. With Tamina Hogg (the owner of Apple Tree), they were able to pass it forward for all the assistance and help that Orangefield received in the past years. OHS wants to remind them that they are stronger than the storm. A comeback cooler is designed with vibrant colors and meaningful symbols to represent home, resilience and community spirit. Senator Meets With Superintendents
Last week, Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) met with local superintendents from Orange County. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss education issues in preparation for the 89th Legislature which convenes in January.
